Rest Before You're Tired
As we've talked about before, burnout and Chronic Workplace Sleepiness (self coined) are very real things, and are excessively annoying to deal with. Not just annoying, but dangerous too. It makes stress much harder to deal with and when exposed to that for long periods of time that can literally shorten your life span.
Thats why rest is so important, but in todays day and age getting rest isn't always an easy task, with emails that pile up in your inbox by the thousands, tasks that never seem to end, and deadlines that creep closer and closer by the hour. its almost impossible to get ample rest to prevent burnout.
Another daunting task related to rest is when to rest. it's hard because (if you're like me) whenever you get a moment to rest it almost feels like I have some guilt because I could be doing more. I could sit down and plan out my next week, I could go and organize my files, but this is the WRONG way to do things.
These are some reasons rest and resting before burnout could make you even better at achieving goals and being more balanced
Prevention of burnout:
Resting before exhaustion sets in helps prevent burnout. By taking regular breaks and allowing yourself to recharge, you can maintain a more sustainable pace and avoid reaching a point of complete physical or mental exhaustion. This is especially important for maintaining productivity and overall well-being in the long run.
Improved performance
Resting before fatigue allows you to maintain a higher level of performance. When you're well-rested, you can think more clearly, make better decisions, and perform tasks more effectively. By proactively taking breaks and resting, you can optimize your productivity and quality of work.
Increased creativity and problem-solving abilities:
Rest provides an opportunity for your mind to wander, allowing for increased creativity and problem-solving abilities. Stepping away from a task or problem can give your brain the chance to make new connections and generate fresh ideas. Some of the most innovative ideas often arise during periods of relaxation and downtime.
Enhanced physical and mental health:
Regular rest and relaxation have numerous benefits for your physical and mental health. Resting before exhaustion helps reduce stress levels, improves sleep quality, and supports overall well-being. It can boost your immune system, improve cognitive function, and contribute to better emotional balance.
Maintenance of work-life balance:
Resting before becoming tired is essential for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. It allows you to prioritize self-care, spend time with loved ones, pursue hobbies, and engage in activities that bring you joy. By consciously taking breaks, you can avoid the trap of overworking and neglecting other important aspects of your life.
